Why You Need a Leg Press Machine

You may have become bored with the traditional barbell squat and its variations. Or you may need another option because you are experiencing pain when performing traditional leg exercises. A lying or seated leg press is a good option for anyone who wants to develop leg muscle strength. By removing the balance and upper body requirement, this exercise can help you develop muscle mass through a more isolated muscle contraction.

What Types of Leg Press Machines Are There?

Not all leg press machines are created the same, and each offers its own unique lower body workout. Here are some differences you will find with the leg press machine options we have available.

Angle of Leg Press Machine

Vertical Leg Press: This old school piece of gym equipment has become more popular than ever. The vertical leg press machine is a space saving way to get a great lower body workout. You can use a vertical leg press for both to hit your quad, hamstring, and glute muscles or as a calf press exercises.

Horizontal Leg Press: A traditional leg press machine is known as the horizontal leg press. This is the one you see in most commercial gyms where the weight slides down a 45-degree angle. In order to get more bang for your buck, we offer a horizontal leg press machine that also includes a hack squat machine as well.

Straight Leg Press: You will commonly see the straight leg press machine attached to a weight stack. This version is most used by lifters, who want to reduce the risk for injury and quickly adjust the weights. A straight leg press machine is the most quad dominant form of the leg press.

There is another leg press option that uses weight plates rather than a weight stack. We can use the leverage leg press for very heavy weights. The leverage leg press machine which has a more natural movement pattern and balances the resistance between the front and back of the legs. This means more hamstring and glute recruitment compared to a standard leg press. But not to fear, your quadriceps will still get a crazy pump.

Leg Press Attachments

You may have the ability to add a leg press attachment if you have a multi station gym that does not yet have one. The compatibility will depend upon the multi station gym that you have. In most cases, these will be a straight leg press attachment.
